The California Social Work Hall of Distinction, providing tangible recognition of social worker contributions to American society, is an instrument for the interpretation of social welfare issues and for the advancement of the social work profession.

The recognition of the origin, role, and contribution of profession-selected social workers will demonstrate the changes in society as well the process, organization and structure of societal institutions. The chronological historical periods from 1840 to date, along with societal institutions such as: family, education, health, housing, work, religion, recreation, government, justice and the economic system-are the constructs for describing the role contributions to social work.

MISSION

The mission of the Hall of Distinction is to recognize individuals, presently and for posterity, who have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the social work profession and/or social work practice in California. The prime element in selection is that of substantive impact on societal institutions and the social work profession in California.
